Let's give it another whack! The previous posts ar correct. I'd add that the reason CCs are used in ochestral work is that ochestral music is written in keys for strings and those keys on a BB create awkward fingerings. Reverse that for concert bands. The keys for most band music would create difficult fingering patterns for CCs. I can't imagine a HS All State would disallow tubists regardless of the pitch of the instrument. F, E -flat, BB, CC. If you can handle the fingerings, what's the big deal. Not talking about hiring on as a tubist in an orchestra, or in a quintette, or brass band, etc. Talking here about an honor bestowed on a young HS student in an all state performance. Get real! (not you, them)
