I think it's also important to remember another one of Mr. Jacobs' teachings in that one should never approach the point of maximum capacity such that it becomes uncomfortable. The same goes for the other end. One should never squeeze air out of ones lungs as if it's the last bit of toothpaste in the tube. The latter will certainly hinder your ability to rebreath comfortably. This is vital advice I think, in the search for efficiency.

Also, breathe when you run out of air. It's that simple. If you can be a "breath ninja" where no one sees or hears it and it is musically unobtrusive, it works!
