I'll make just one comment. The cimbasso provides a homogeneous sound to the trombone section right on down to the "trombone basso" part. I think this is the composers intent give some of the comments that have survived. When anyone gets to hear them back to back, the contrast of a tuba of any kind in the section and a cimbasso is so dramatic that the choice to use a cimbasso is a very clear and definite one.

BTW, I heard Jay's presentation at ITEC. I was already interested in the cimbasso, so I had to check it out. It was incredible to hear the compare/contrast of the different horns he used. He did a fantastic job!

Cimbasso, the right tool for the job.
