I've found in most cases that these kinds of problems are usually pretty wide-spread. Red rot is not usually confined to a small patchable area. I have been known to patch a lead pipe but the best solution is to replace the entire lead pipe. Patches are most useful where the brass has been torn due to damage. I don't mean to be argumentive here but even red rot itself can cause major acoustical change. Generally, the slicker the inside of the horn is, the better the acoustical properties will be... that is if the horn was worth a darn in the first place. I doubt even a severe case of rot would hurt some the Indian and Chinese horns!
