I own a Sterling and in all honesty, I love the sound. The valves do piss me off sometimes because whereas with other horns good upkeep would consist of oiling the valves everyday, this horn requires you to do so if you want your valves to not stick at any given time. Thats ok I guess. As far as intonation, it depends on your style of playing. Because I play with my mouth at the top of the mouthpiece, I tend to play sharp, especially on notes requiring the 1st valve. this horn, however, balanced that for me so really don't have as much to worry about since my late Besson horn. The horn is very free-blowing and sounds great in the upper range. But then again, this is my opinion. You should probably try a few out to get your own perspective. I am willing to bet though that you won't be disappointed with the sound.
