I think you can "take it" - particularly when all the stones were thrown "around" you, and I don't think I had anything at all to do with your week - such as it was.

If you re-read my comments, I think you'll see that I imply that the socialist-utopian model would indeed work perfectly if all who participated in it did their duties as (specifically mentioned) you do.

Unfortunately, it often doesn't work that way.

Ya' know, high culture/high art (like the stuff we tuba players sit behind and honk along with) is always the result of high prosperity and high amounts of leisure time. I don't see much prosperity in the world where there is not much freedom. The more the freedom, the more the prosperity. Just look around. It's obvious.

No, the majority of folks are not going to engage in "high culture/art", 'cause most folks aren't, uhh, "high". However, those who enjoy high prosperity will have the means to enjoy "high culture/art" if they chose to do so. Having the gubmunt yank money away from everyone and dictate that we all support "high culture/art" hasn't encouraged the prosperity of "high culture/art". In fact, gubmunt support may have created at bit of resentment for it, particularly considering the quality of some of our gubmunt "high art" (about comparable to much of Soviet "high art"). If gubmunt support had really successfully promoted high art, more and more symphony orchestras would be forming, rather than folding...yet there are tons of government studio teachers. I would be in favor of letting folks spend their money where they wish, enjoying their prosperity, and the fruits of their then highly-increased leisure purchasing power. Top-notch folks like Dave Z might possibly end up teaching in (new) private conservatories rather than public universities, but actually might make even more $$$$$ (since folks would compete with their $$$$$ to get in his desirable studio) and DZ might even send more students into their desired professions, since more folks might decide that they have more disposable $$$ and time to spend on the enjoyment of high art.

Maybe you need to realize that you're reading the thoughts of a person who is currently being strong-armed into paying for a THIRD gubmunt-bought bassey-baw arena in his barely-1,000,000 metro area city, since the first and second arenas "just won't do" for the new perfeshunul bassey-baw teem. Maybe 4000 of us 1,000,000 are in favor of the new bassey-baw arena and the rest of us are outraged. If that's the case (and it is) I wonder how many of the 10,000,000 or so (??) folks in my state think it's a good idea to hire four or five gubmunt tuber perfessers to teach all of the future perfeshunul tuber players for our state? (I, as one, think ONE OF THESE for my state would probably be OK.)
