The first "note" -- false tone -- below the low Bb is likely to be an Eb (that's what centers best on the BBb tubas I've played so far), BUT it could still be a low D.

I have to second the phrase, "Playing this note is the beginning of proper embrochure!" Even trumpet players know this -- if you look in the trumpet book, "Double High C in Sixty Days" (or whatever it's called), more than half of the exercises are well below the staff, usually in the false tone & pedal ranges.
