Think of insurance (all included) this way:

You pay into a collective pot. A lot of other people pay into this pot also. This pot becomes, in essence, a passbook account. When you need funds for some sort of emergency, this account is able to write checks above and beyond your own means. While you may never need this account, it sure is nice to have if you do.

BTW, start digging if you wanna go back to the gold standard. You're gonna need a lot more to back up our economy. Forget those trade alliances while you're at it. Oh by the way, we are a service oriented society now. So when you try to return manufacturing back to our shores, be prepared to wait about 20 years with no prosperity while we retackle that learning curve.

It isn't much of a suprise that we have a trade deficit. Compare our economy to about every other developed country on REAL factors and you'll see that we still live in the land of prosperity.

By the way, folks are headed back in my direction....

ps. Be thankful for the global economy and transference of skills. That is, compare an american style horn (VMI 3301) to a currently produced King 2341. Price is fairly close in REAL dollars and it seems like the craftsmanship is always better on the VMI. Isn't specialization grand?
