Nothing like paying an extra $1500 for a threaded leadpipe and an oversized bell.

They (Getzen) either weren't making enough Tubas to turn a profit or (my supposition) Getzen was having to steal labor resources from the lucrative trombone & trumpet lines to build these horns. More often than not, I would even guess it was the folks with better skill levels. Because there is a small market for skilled instrument builders and a tall learning curve to master this art, it would make sense to abandon this line altogether and insure some level of quality, effeciency, and speed on the "profit centers".
