Hey ^_^
I too have a Mirafone 188 and have the whole valve issue. Half a year ago my valves finaly forced me to take them to the shop (they were clanky and starting to break).

Now, the lady told me never to come back because she hated working on tubas (i won't, either), but they don't clank any more and they're easy to take care of with just some oil every now and then. I think they just needed some TLC. But hey, any info you get on this subject would be great to hear, if you wouldn't mind sharing ^_^.

Just lately I had the problem, though, where I oiled my valve, worked it in, put the cap on, and the valve wouldn't move. Took the cap off, it was fine, put it on, it was stuck. It went away, but scared me as it was right before an audition...still no clue what caused it, but I'm guessing it had to do with the oil...

anyway, like I said, ditto with the whole walve issue ^_^
