South?

St. Pete is about 4-1/2 hours Northwest of Miami.

Regardless, there is a shop called the Brass and Woodwind in Tampa that will have a couple of decent used horns from time to time, or at least they used to. They are essentially across the street from University of South Florida.

There is also a store in St. Pete area named Bringe Music. They used to have pretty good stock on Bach Trombones, but I don't know about tubas.

No one in Orlando regularly has tubas. There was a place, whose name escapes me, in Daytona Beach that used to carry some used tubas also. A former student picked up a nice 20J there for a reasonable price.

Ultimately, if you're looking to try some new, or even popular types of conical low brass, you're SOL in Florida. Sad for a state with 20+ million residents. Seems like it would be ripe for the picking for someone with the initiative of a Tony Clements or David Fetterly, but who knows what that market is really willing to bear.

Like Jay Bertolet said, enjoy the beaches and the "scenery" that accompanies them. In a place like South Beach, you'll never see something like that anywhere else in the 50 states...
