I agree with you but we have to remember that if you asked to play with the ensemble, it is most important that the instrument you use produces the a sound the conductor (and/or section) wants.

Does that take a 6/4, 5/4, 4/4 or 3/4? Depends on a lot of variables.

One example is the story I heard from Warren Deck. In his audition with the NY Phil, he didn't bring his Holton CC. When he had to play with the orchestra as the final part of his audition, it became a mad rush to have the horn brought up to NYC because the trombone section told him that his volume wasn't up to what they were used to hearing.

Still, it's the player that wins the job, not the instrument.
