The French C tuba is a small-bore instrument pitched exactly two semitones above a Bb euphonium.
Yes, they take a small (for a tuba) mouthpiece.
The valves are configured as follows:
123 - top, 456 - side
2 and 5 = lower by 1 semitone
1 = lower by 2 semitones
3 = lower by 4 semitones
4 = lower by 5 semitones
6 = lower by 8 semitones
Meaning that 2+5 = 1, 1+2=1+5, 4=2+3=3+5, 6=1+2+4=1+4+5, etc.
Lots of alternate fingerings possible. Or so says my Frenchy tuba method book.
