Living in the metro Atlanta area for as long as I have, I have seen a great deal of St. Pete tubas in local high schools (and seeing more every year!). They are pretty good and if your partner likes them go right ahead. My only piece of advice is this:
If you are buying a St. Pete make sure you get one with a laquered finish. Stay away from the nickel-silver finish. It will start to wear away in a year or so and make a big mess.
