I have seen this stuff in grocery stores. There seems to be variations. Some times the holes in the weave are large and the strands of fiber fall out easily. The stuff we get at work is a much tighter weave. It does not shed as much. You can use any kind of lint free cloth. Old lightweight t-shirts are really good. Don't use anything that could introduce foriegn substances and you'll be ok. Also you will want to get a cleaning rod to attach whatever type of cloth you use. I like the longer flute ones because I can quickly swab out the outer tuning slides after I do the valve casings. Important! Leave extra material hanging on the end so that when you put the cloth on the rod in a casing or tube you will have some sticking out the end. That way you can pull on the cloth to get it out. If you only have a small square on the end of the rod it will likely get stuck.
