The leather is backed by something that isn't dangerous to silver or brass. I forget what the material is, but the leather is on the outside, then a thin sheet of plastic, and then that material. I have a small leather strap on my horn to protect it from lacquer wear. The man who did it for me works for Leather Specialties and played Trumpet for a major orchestra. He was a great guy too. I won't post contact info on this forum, but e-mail me (not personally meant for "Johnny B Goode," but for whomever might be reading this) and I can get in touch with him and see what he can do for you. Surprisingly, the the wrap was exceptionally cheap.
