A lot of Conn's old lyre screws are also 6-40.
The stem threads for the top of the Conn short-action pistons is also some whacky size...I finally broke down about a decade ago and ordered the (custom) tap for the 20K/20J piston stem thread.

Hey, talk about STOOPUD, ALL of the various bass clarinet floor pegs' diameters hover around 1/4", but NONE of them are 1/4" and NONE of them are the same...just another way to make sure that their high-profit (easy to make)designed-to-lose parts are purchased from them, instead of from the hobby shop or metal supply house...
innumerable examples of this, as one might imagine...
