I had an Easter gig once with a brass quintet and the in-house pipe organ. As usual with these types of gigs, you play twenty bars then sit for ten minutes before you play again. On this gig the room was very cold. During the rehearsal before the first service my pitch was completely different at the beginning of each piece than at the end, the pipe organ didn't budge. Well, when it came time for the actuall service, the heater for the church came on and there just happened to be a floor register right where I set my horn down. I let warm air blow through the horn between pieces and all was well.
