I know that with the Alexander tubas, they're basically worthless if they don't have their garland. It's their trademark. On the REALLY old Alexes, there isn't any garland, but instead a design and the name on the bell like the tubas you see today. If they do have the garland, then they don't have any design/name on the bell. It's all about authenticity.
