Didn't Phil Farkas have a bunch of photos and commentary regarding mouthpiece placement in his "Art of Brass Playing"? Seems that I remember that the mouthpiece position for the trumpet and horn pros was pretty uniform, but for large brass it was all over the place. I think he said something to the effect of the mouthpiece placement being limited on low brass only by the upper edge of the mouthpiece running into the nose.
