FYI: Ed Moon was one of the gentlemen who auditioned me for the Navy Band back in 1967. The other committee member was Earle Louder, recently retired from Moehead State. We all performed on those big Martin tubas back then, and were sad when many were simply "surveyed" out of service. Some ended up in the hands of high school musicians who would never know their history.

I learned how to be a military band musician from Ed Moon and Earle Louder, and our principal hornist (recently deceased), Rodrigo Mugol. Ed was a model of consistency and preparation---great big warm sound and a no-nonsense approach to the job, but with the love and respect for the music. We stay in touch, and after a spell of playing alto sax with one community band, has gone back to the tuba. So glad to hear it! By the way, Ed's predecessor, Lennie Jung, went back to playing again, and as of at least a couple of years ago (and at about age 76), was playing in the Maryland Community concert Band. Thanks for reading.
