You might be right about the difficulty. The reason I think it isn't too hard for a player like Paul is a simple one. I'm a euphonium player, and if I can play the Woodward on Bass Trombone (and I can), then I wouldn't think it's too difficult for him. I'm a decent bass bone player, but I can't play it as well as he can play tuba.
