FOURTEENTH ANNUAL FORT WORTH MERRY TUBACHRISTMAS CONCERT

Over 175 area tuba and euphonium players will present the fourteenth annual Fort Worth Merry TUBACHRISTMAS concert on Monday, December 23. The performance will take place at Sundance Square, 512 Main Street, downtown Fort Worth at 12:00 noon. This year’s conductor will be Bobby Francis, Director of Bands at Texas Christian University. Special Guest Conductor will be Harvey Phillips, world renowned tuba artist and teacher and founder of TUBACHRISTMAS concerts. Master of ceremonies will be Dr. Darhyl Ramsey, Professor of Music Education at the University of North Texas.

The concert, free of charge and open to the public, is presented by the D-FW area chapter of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association (I.T.E.A.) and the Harvey Phillips Foundation. Local sponsorship and assistance is provided by Sundance Square, the Radisson Plaza Hotel, and Brook Mays Music Company.

TUBACHRISTMAS concerts are performed annually in over 150 cities throughout the United States and Canada. These concerts are presented as a tribute to the late, great William J. Bell who was born on Christmas Day in 1902. (This is the one-hundredth anniversary of Mr. Bell’s birth). “Bill” Bell is recognized by all musicians as the dean of tuba players throughout the world.

Persons of all ages who play the tuba, sousaphone, euphonium or baritone horn are cordially invited to perform in this concert. Registration is from 9:00-9:45 a.m. and is followed by a music rehearsal from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Registration and the rehearsal are at the Radisson Plaza Hotel, 815 Main Street, downtown Fort Worth (2 blocks north of the Tarrant County Convention Center). Participants should dress in accordance with the prevailing weather conditions and should bring a music lyre and instrument strap. The music performed will be from CAROLS FOR A MERRY TUBACHRISTMAS used at all official MERRY TUBACHRISTMAS concerts. The books may be purchased at registration for $10.00.

The registration fee for participants is $5.00.

Harvey Phillips Clinic: Mr. Phillips will be presenting a low brass clinic following the TUBACHRISTMAS concert.
