I agree. I've spoken with Gene Pokorny on the phone, and I never got the impression that he was into being "manly". In fact, some of the comments that he made to me, indicated that has definitely not into the, "louder is better" school of thought. I'm sure that he made these changes precisely for the reasons that you've given.
