Mr. Jacobs made one studio recording of the VW with Daniel Barenboim and the CSO for DG. This has never been issued on CD. Some months later a public CSO performance by Mr. Jacobs with Henry Mazer conducting was taped for broadcast by WFMT. This performance was issued by the CSO in a Radiothon set Soloists in the Orchestra. Long sold out, not destined to be reissued anytime soon. The Besson F was used on both performances.

Around 1961 or so, I attended a VW performance Mr. Jacobs gave with the Civic under John Weicher. On that occasion, he played the York - magnificently. This took place within a year or so - of the basement tape of the VW 1st movement that appears on the Arnold Jacobs Portrait CD, which as he clearly announces, was on the Holton.

IF ONLY that 1961 Civic performance had been taped. . .
