I dont' use them standing up, so I won't address the height factor. One thing I have noticed about the K&M, though, is that it does not collapse as low as the old DEG that I carry to rehearsals. With tall "orchestra" chairs, it's not a problem. But with some folding chairs that we sometimes get at gigs, the K&M won't go low enough for some tubas. I use mine at home and leave it set up, and use the DEG for outside the house.
