I see this all the time. The tubas we play are built to fit the average guy (So are motorcycles, bye the way) and i haven't met him yet! I have many woman students, larger students or smaller people who just can find a good posture with the tuba. Odd that you are problems with a Mirafone, because I have found them to me MORE forgiving posture-wise than many of the piston tubas I've seen. Work with your instructor and see if there is a posture that works for you. Put the tuba on a chair, or a stand. Does the horn point straight up, or to the left. Are you supporting the tuba with your LEFT hand and allowing your RIGHT hand to lightly rest on the paddles? Are your feet directly under your knees?
