My high school (lo these many years ago) had Meinl Weston model 25 BBb tubas (4V, rotary). My Jr. Hi. school had Miraphone 186 tubas (4V, rotary). It was a fairly well-off district, financially. These were very nice BBb tubas.

I've recently played the new King 2341 and a VMI 3301 (both 4V, piston), both of which were a little cheaper than the two rotary valved tubas, and these also played and sounded very nice. These horns have a little "broader" sound to my ears, whereas the rotary valved horns seemed to have a more focused sound (probably due to the bell shape/size).

Any of these horns would be excellent high school BBb tubas.
