Sounds unusual. I would contact the store you bought the tuba from, and they will contact UMI. it's been my experience that UMI is VERY good about taking care of anything that might be a defect. If it's a new horn, and something just fell off of it, they will take care of it.
If you can't get satisfaction with the store you bought it from, I have left my e-mail address, I will get in touch with the people who can help you.
