1. I do use a metronome but not all the time anymore. Conductors tell me that my time is pretty good (now isn't that a ringing endorsement!) so I only use the metronome to practice those passages which are really hard for me to hear and understand. I used to practice with a metronome all the time and it will eventually build up an internal pulse that you can use all the time.
2. Buy a new metronome! ;-)
