The overall length of the peg is 20" plus about an inch more for the rubber pad. The way I have it set up on my horn, I have 4-5 inches of room for adjustment from the bottom of the large bow to the flat of the chair. That has always been more than enough adjustment for me with the variety of chairs I've used and my 6' overweight frame. If the upper clamp were moved lower on the bell (mine is about 2 inches above the bell to large bow joint), you could add that amount to the adjustable length of the peg. I could only see this being necessary if the player is very tall and/or long waisted as I have not been close to the end of the peg in any situation - cheap folding chairs, church pews, stackable plastic chairs, or nice cushioned chairs.
