GO TO SCHOOL
Repairing instruments can be fun and rewarding. But..... A sound education is more important. You can always learn to repair and tinker with instruments in your spare time. I began in the repair business working only on tubas.I soon found out that although it can be personaly rewarding ,you need to fix all types of instruments to make a good living.Dreams of being a tuba only repairman-designer are a noble fantasy. The repair and the musical instrument business in general is a competitive, difficult trade. Get your teaching degree and play repair guy for fun.
I should add that repairing is a great profession. It has been very good to me.If you chose to enter the trade get some business courses under your belt and then go at it gung-ho

good luck
