Are you referring to the Holton Harvey Phillips model when you say "Phillips?" If so, I have never really liked the way that they play. I much prefer the M-W 25 between these two horns. The 25 is a well made, good playing horn, with good intonation. Other horns worth looking at for Community bands would be the new King 2341, VMI 2103, Cerveny 686, or for a little more money the Miraphone 186, Miraphone 191, or VMI 3301. I think that the King is just about the ideal tuba for a community band, especially for the money. It is comfortable to hold, free blowing, has good intonation, and is well made. Of course every player is different and you really should try out as many as possible for yourself before buying something.
