Pip - old chap! I am a staunch advocate of playing stands that hold the tuba for you. Because chairs vary in height and tubas come in different sizes, it can be very difficult to find a comfortable playing position. This can contribute to fatique and and even effect your breathing ability. There are several models available from companies such as DEG or Weightlifter - check your favorite retail catalog. I tell you honestly, getting a stand for my tuba improved my playing, enabled me to play longer and more comfortably- more bang than any other hardware investment thus far. For me it was the best $60.00 I've ever spent on equipment - far cheaper than a new horn!

Cheerio,

Moises
