First you have to decide what type of music you intend to play. All of my time is spend in concert band and oom-pah band settings. My favorite horn is a bell-front front-action King tuba. I've got two of 'em.. twins! I also have Buescher, Conn, and Reynolds sousas... Holton and Conn uprights, and a home made helicon. All of these are three-valve horns and all have intonation quirks. For general use including all indoor venues, the bell-front King rules. Outside, my Conn sousa does a nice job. For strolling Dixieland and Christmas carolling, the helicon is the only way to go. None of my horns would work for serious ensemble of solo work, but this is not my desire. You'll have to decide for yourself.
