Those carbon fibre bells are weird. I spent a fair amount of time playing Chuck's original CB-50 with the carbon fibre bell that he played in the mid-90's, and it really is an awesome horn. It had only four valves. The carbon bell, though, does deaden the sound a good deal, but it didn't seem to really give that impression right under the bell. It still sounds quite loud and resonant, but that might be on account of the fact that the bell on the CB-50 is so close to your head. Ron Bishop brought borrowed this horn a few years ago, since chuck wasn't using it anymore, and brought it into a Cleveland Orchestra rehearsal. Dohnanyi didn't seem to like it too much...Bishop just thinks that Dohnanyi thought it was hideous! It is amazingly light, though, like a high-quality racing bike. And you can also see through the bell if you hold it up to the light: it's translucent.
