If the Holton you refer is Warrens old horn, I now have that horn. The dependant 5th works fine, and the horn has been compared very favorably to some high end bats for its very free blowing low end. There is the loss of use of the 5th as many of us have become so accustomed, but nothing that is not easily overcome. I will be adding one to my Conn 2-J to see if it is effective on a smaller horn for quintet, but imagine it will present more challenges than say a bat. The proceedure can be done as to be totally reversable, so the risk is small. I will post results and pics when the project is complete (put off for now due to the economy).
