I took a look at a marching performance by a small but promising H.S. band program recently and was struck by how much movement there is, far more than what I recall from long ago when we stayed in constant motion with "moving diamond" shows.
I'm amazed that they manage to play at all, particularly when marching sideways or backwards.
That particular director, however, also is very good with concert work and wants his kids to be playing top-notch complex music. So, he works on the "right stuff" during concert season.
Nonetheless, there does seem to be a major focus, from what I see, on marching bands these days, and that doesn't lend itself to playing much below a constant forte.
