You might want to develop a written statement of the best embouchure or embouchures or several actual ones by professionals and then create a three-dimensional software program to show how it works. It would be great if it would also show how the tongue and embouchure and air column and air stream function during different playing tasks such as extreme high range, extreme low, double tonguing, etc. Then, you could also market this software product after your Ph.D. was done. Your theoretical contribution might be to synthesize the wealth of ideas on the embouchure and tonguing, etc. and to state your own improvement on this basis. Or, your theoretical contribution, if there had to be one in addition to the creation of the 3-d software, might be to present the development of the embouchure and tonguing skills in phases, so that the software would not just show the state of a professional today but teach students by showing them computer representations of stages in the development of the embouchure up to very advanced skills.
I would enjoy reading the dissertation and seeing the software.
