Mineral oil has worked well for me on rotary valves. if it's pistons that need oiling you need something lighter and thinner. WD40, to my knowledge is a better protectant than a lubricant. I suppose I'd use it in an ABSOLUTE pinch of a situation. Is there no real valve oil to be found in your area?
Other POSSIBILITIES, vegetable oil?, chain oil(chainsaw)? 3 in 1 oil?
I'm just throwing out options here, any one who has eal knowledge of reasons not to use any of this should say so. I suspect use of any of the above will require another cleaning once you switch to real valve oil. Certainly there must be another brass player you can mooch some off of.
Buy your valve oil by the pint or quart if possible and dispense it into smaller bottles that you have previously used up. It's also much cheaper that way.
