I must respectfully disagree with your statement, "the pinky finger simply wasn't designed for that kind of strength and dexterity." I am primarily a tuba player and have played very fast passages on a large bore 4 in line piston valve instruments with no problem. If my pinky can handle the stroke on a 0.750" bore 4th piston, a 0.560" - 0.600" bore piston shouldn't be a problem. I don't believe that there are any passages for either tuba or euphonium that can't be played on an inline instrument.

I have never been able to play a 3+1 instrument comfortably. I have been diagnosed as dyslexic and the coordination between my hands just isn't there. That's also explains why I can't play woodwinds or piano. I'm perfectly happy with my old Conn Connstellation baritone when I need to double on euphonium parts.
