Mark, maybe if you turned the bottom bow so that the branches were not quite as aligned with the bell, it might work. I'll e-Mail you a drawing of this, and you can post it if you like.
The only problem (possibly too big of a problem?) is that the valve section would rotate away from you and might be less comfortable to play. But heck, that's what linkages are for, right??
