A great teacher once told me that it depends on the size of the horn. If you have a big horn use a smaller mouthpiece for the purpose of focusing the sound. A PT 88 is a great mouthpiece for mature players. If your lip muscle is not strong, it could lead to unfocus sound. Being able to have a center to the core of your sound is everything. Try out different mouthpieces before you decide because as your playing advances, you might like to try other things. Sound quality and its color can be easily altered by air, embochure. It is not limited to the mouthpiece.
