As Kurt Angle likes to say, "it's true, it's true." (My apologies if you don't follow the WWF.) Playing too much F tuba and not focusing enough on your CC will result in an F tuba-ish sound on your CC. I know this because I did a ton of F tuba playing last spring, and for my sophomore jury, I got numerous comments about how bright and thin (i.e. F tuba-like) I was sounding on my CC. The horn prof. put it "you sound too much like the F tuba on your big horn."

In regards to what horn to use in quintet, I've always felt that it's easier to blend into the quintet's sound on an F tuba. But then again, Andy's quintet is a lot better than mine, so...
