A great deal depends on the instrument you are trying it on. One with a lot of free bell above the top bow of the horn like a standard Mirafone will be affected a lot. I've found that it improves response on notes that are hard to center, and it helps projection. It is quite evident on my Rudy Meinl 5/4 CC. It probably wouldn't do much for the any of those that you mention. I have tried it on some horns that I thought it had a negative effect. Projection is sometimes very deceptive. What sounds dead to the player may be projecting better out to the audience.
