A former German elite gymnast, I think his name was Eberhard Ginger, once told that the basis for his world class achievements were his lack of natural gymnastic gifts, as these lacks forced him to be very conscious about his performances.
I am blue with envy of gifted brass players. But hard work and perseverance might bring the rest of us at least a few steps in the right direction.
