The local PBS TV affiliate here just aired
a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9
with the Detroit Sym. led by Neeme Jarvi with
a "re-orchestrated" score by Gustav Mahler !!
What a great sound !! Mahler not only doubled
the woodwinds but added the TUBA !!
There are a few good shots of Wesley Jacobs with
his big York-copy (Nirschl or 'brunner ?) and even
a brief interview. The choice of Patti Smith as
commentator for this production was questionable
at best. I don't know if this has already been
shown in most cities ... so it's likely that this
is old news. Anyway, it's worth checking out.
