Here's the way I split mine.
Take a 3/4" thick by about 2" wide (or so)wooden board and drill a hole only slightly larger than the tubing through it. With a hammer, tap a utility-knife blade into the board so that it is firmly anchored, positioned so that the tip of the blade protrudes just far enough into the hole to cut the tubing jacket. From the side opposite the blade, thread the tubing into the hole and pull it through from the blade side. Continue to pull until you have as much slit tubing as you need.
The result is as much neatly-slit tubing as you want in only seconds.
