I switched from BBb to Eb a few years back because I was having difficulties playing/articulating/attacking notes precisely in the half octave from about F/G in the staff up to around middle C (prime quintet territory -- my main playing situation). I wasn't able to get notes to start quickly and precisely -- they had a blatty attack (best I can describe it). I have no such problems with my Besson 983 Eb, regardless of the mpc I use (and I've got several).
Recently, I visited WW&BW and again tried a Miraphone 186 and 191 BBb, and found the same issue. So, I'm polling experienced users of BBb tubas:
Do you find this to be a characterist of some (many?) BBb tubas,
of some BBb tubas when played with certain mpcs, or of some
BBb tubas when played by some weenie players ;-) ?
Do CC tubas play better in this range?
Would you think a Dillon Adjustable Gap Receiver might help with this?
TIA!
