Many tubas are pitch-sensitive to your choice of mouthpiece VOLUME. If you have either a very deep, very wide, or both, mouthpiece, this could lead to some notes being flat. I suppose lack of enough air might also contribute to this. But I'm now out of my element, and I need to defer to those more experienced with mouthpiece and air influences to proper intonation.
